ABOUT USOur Survey Department offers a number of options to suit our Client's needs
PJ Barrett & Co specialise in building investigation and remedial specification for dampness in modern or traditional buildings. We provide expert advice and assistance for all forms of damp or timber decay related issues.
With 20 years of experience in the building industry, our principal Peter Barrett holds an MSc in Building Conservation from The University of York. He studied building surveying in the UK with specific emphasis on dampness, timber decay and its remediation. Peter is a qualified thermographer and is a Traditional Building Retrofit Advisor to PAS 2035. Peter is a full member of the Institute of Specialist Surveyors and Engineers and is a personal member of The Irish Georgian Society.
Attaining both a practical and academic experience, we provide a practical and hands-on approach to building repair. We employ a combination of both modern and traditional techniques when specifying remedial action in building repair.
Our Specialism – Dampness in Buildings
Dampness is one of the most damaging decay mechanisms in our built environment in Ireland. Dampness can occur in all building types, from modern construction to historic buildings. Our approach to confronting dampness and decay in buildings is to diagnose the root cause and then tailor the remedial approach accordingly.
We use a holistic methodology to studying and understanding how buildings fail, recognised as building pathology. We understand how buildings are put together, how they change and how they fail. This often includes the study of particular building defects and their associated remedial repairs. Defects will typically occur due to a change to the structure of the fabric of a building, design deficiencies, quality issues, environmental changes and poor building maintenance.
